About Sailing the Med

Welcome to Sailing the Med, the local IYT sailing school on Spain’s beautiful Costa Blanca.

After experiencing the number of enquiries coming from all around Europe and occasionally other parts of the world, we made the decision to open an IYT sailing and powerboat school here in Alicante. We can offer more courses, the International Certificate of Competence and more government approvals than any other sailing organisation. The IYT are the Global Leaders in Marine Certification.

As a new venture for us in 2014 we set about finding a boat that was suitable for our needs. Having been used to teaching on 40’ plus yachts with a 4 cabin arrangement, we knew that this was the flexibility we needed and we spent months looking for a suitable vessel. We finally found “Cheeky Mojito”, as she is now named, in Portorosa marina in Sicily. After what can only be described as a very pleasant experience dealing with the Italian owners, we finally sailed her back to Alicante in March 2015.

The voyage took 12 days in total, after very difficult weather conditions marred our passage. After 2 days and nights at sea we had to stop at a small marina in the south of Sardinia to wait out a storm. The local marinara lent us his car so that we could refuel and stock up with local food and wine for our stay. 2 days later we left our new friends and set off for Menorca as we knew another storm was not far away. After 4 nights in Menorca watching the wind and rain batter the Marina the weather finally changed for the better and although it took us a while to get out of the bay at Mahon, once we were through the entrance and turned for Ibiza the weather was kind to us, the dolphins arrived, the sails were up and life was good again. 2 days later we arrived at Alicante and “Cheeky Mojito’s” new home on Berth M10.

During March and April she was extensively refitted and coded by the Marine & Coastguard Agency surveyor and is now a fully coded UK flagged vessel with all the latest safety equipment fitted.

Our mission for the company in 2015 through 2016 is to grow the sailing school business and then apply to become an IYT professional school here in Alicante.

Our mission for our clients is to provide the best quality learn to sail experience or holiday that exceeds your expectations.

All of our recreational courses are run by experienced IYT qualified instructors and include everything you need. Our instructors will quickly help you learn the ropes and will spend as much time as you need going over things so that you are happy in what you are doing.

Our learn to sail holidays are exactly that. Learn to sail without the pressure of being on a course with no pass or fail and just get involved as much as you want to.

Our skippered charter holidays are tailor made to your own requirements.

We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming you on board “Cheeky Mojito” in the very near future.
