Sailing Courses
Sailing the Med is delighted to be able to offer the International Yacht Training syllabus for recreational sailing courses. After a lot of careful consideration we realised that as a multi-national provider of sailing courses, our clients were best served with an “International” qualification that would benefit them around the world.
The IYT has developed a modular format in maritime training. The concept was to offer a series of recreational nautical courses that would be acceptable to major national registries and governments. They refer to this series of courses as the “International Boating & Sailing Passport”.
This idea has enabled them to successfully establish a network of partner schools offering IYT courses worldwide. The model has been enthusiastically embraced by a growing number of colleges, training establishments, countries and administrations.
The modular nature of the courses allows the candidate the convenience of full time, evening or weekend participation coupled with the ability to choose a convenient location.
The Bareboat and Flotilla Skipper Certificates are accepted by all major yacht charter companies and many insurance companies offer discounted premiums to those who hold IYT qualifications.
It is important to note that the “depth of knowledge” increases as one progresses through the various modules. It is also important to understand that an IYT certificate is a qualification that can be used across the globe. Therefore, unlike other training organisations, IYT insists on an understanding of IALA Regulations in Areas A & B, weather systems in the North & Southern hemispheres, tidal calculations for the Mediterranean and N. America and the effects of tropical revolving storms.
A student may enter the programme at any level determined by their previous boating experience.

All prices include accommodation, the cost of the IYT course complete with your “International Passport” and IYT credit card style certificate, fuel and mooring fees as well as clean bedding, towels, 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 3 evening meals on board. We encourage the crew to have a last night out at a local restaurant on our final evening together. This is entirely optional but is at additional cost.
Not included in the price is the cost of getting to Sailing the Med, Holiday Insurance which you must take out and any fees relating to an ICC certificate if requested.
Yachtmaster prices do not include the IYT certificate cost or accommodation and food on the 5 day theory course.
